Drawing inspiration from participatory discussions on shared feminine experiences that she organizes and leads, Cindy Phenix paints to navigate the tenuous relationship between the public and private, creating complex compositions that explore the power relations that influence social transactions and how these structures govern our behavior and shape our views on societal conduct.

Cindy Phenix (b. 1989 in Montreal, Canada; lives and works in Chicago) earned her BFA at Concordia University in Quebec, Montreal in 2016 and her MFA at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 2020. Phenix’s work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Galerie Hugues Charbonaeu and Maison de la culture de Longeuil in Montreal. Her work will also be included in forthcoming exhibitions organized by Spinnerei Werkschau in Leipzig, Germany and the Block Museum in Evanston, IL. Phenix’s works are included in the collections of the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec, the Caisse de dépôt et de placemet du Quebec, and Hyrdo-Québec.
